Importance of Global Supply Chain Management (GSCM)

According to experts GSCM can be defined as the science of planning how the global distribution of goods and services will make it from manufacturer to consumer. Why does Global Supply Chain Management matter?
The interconnectedness of the current world and specifically in global supply chains require quick, efficient, and safe movement of goods and services. A successful global supply chain requires for all its parts to work in complete harmony with each other. One piece not functioning properly can impede the whole system. In 2021 we have seen a rebound in the global market after many countries had lifted Covid-19 restrictions.

This presents both an opportunity and a threat. With the world going back to normal, people are buying more and this presents the opportunity for growth for any company with products to sell. However, the possible threat is that as the markets expand so does their volatility. It requires top experts in the industry to be able to read the market and respond accordingly with the necessary means to guarantee a stable growth of their operations.

People
People are key in any business process and it is no exception in GSCM. To achieve an effective global supply chain, the stakeholders involved require the right skills and know-how to manage various aspects such as manufacturing, sourcing, transportation and storage. It is also important that the people know exactly what the bigger picture of the company is and how it fits in the global supply chain.
Processes
When it comes to processes, such as manufacturing, sourcing, transportation storage and customer services, it is important to cater them to the needs of the global supply chain. As the global environment is constantly changing, being able to adjust accordingly will lead to an edge over the competition. Moreover, by piecing the right process together it is both possible to achieve an effective global supply chain and with minimized costs.
Technology

The right marketing strategies are needed to be implanted for each market, and these strategies are needed to be in sync with the entire supply chain. In a global supply chain, the right processes play an even greater role. A delay of a few days in one segment of the chain could lead to weeks of delay for the end customer. This is because logistics is incredibly complex for a global supply chain. After all, it has to face cross-currency issues, trade regulations, and shipping distances. By having the right process implemented, companies can achieve superior customer value as there is a clear impact on customer satisfaction.
Supply management
This aspect consists of managing and developing the necessary supplier and business relationships. It is an industry-standard to have special software to support this aspect. We design visible, feasible and achievable solutions and manage them for you. Unilog defines the SOW, identifying unique customer needs in the replenishment process. Inbounding 100,000 serials or a testing a server requires a different approach. Dealing with a defective unit inbound or field return is not the same as a PO inbound or a WH transfer inbound. Outbound of a service order is different than an FMCG with expiration date outbound. Shipping & tracking of small parcel or full tracks can lead to different flows and process.
